DIY SELF CHECK ON LEAKING TOILETS

Are you facing difficulty trying to identify / trace the water leaking in your premises such as toilets?

Your neighbour complain water dripping onto their toilet and ceiling?

Is it due to concealed water pipes leak or failure of the water proofing membrane?

Follow these simple steps could help you nail down the source of leak:

1) Check all water taps for any water seepage / dripping from taps and it's flexible water inlet.

2) Check water closet if any water seepage from flush cistern.

**Above steps to ensure the water taps and water closet in good condition and not leaking.

3) Before you sleep take the water meter readings.  You can take picture of the water meter reading.

4) Stop using the basin and toilets for at least 6 hours and take the water meter readings after at least 6 hours.  This is to check if any movement in the water meter.
If there is some difference in the meter reading, you can confirm that there is leaking pipes. Water from concealed pipes could have seep thru the walls and to your lower floor neighbour or seep through to your adjoining walls.

5) Should lower floor neighbour complain on water dripping from your unit, you can conduct water ponding test in your toilets.  Seal up the floor trap and fill up the toilets with water to about 30mm deep. Leave this ponding for 24 hours and verify with your lower floor neighbour if the leak worsens?

** Pls wipe away any water droplets from the ceiling, slab and water pipes, so that you can observe formation of new water droplets from each test.
