Carpet Tiles Selection

Modular carpet tiles are increasingly popular flooring choice for offices, thanks to their ease of installation, wide variety of design, available in different carpet tiles shapes, ease of removal upon expiring of office tenancy.
They are available in loop pile and cut pile. In the loop-style pile each of the ends is connected into the backing so there's a continuous loop. In the cut-style pile, the loops are actually cut so that there are individual ends sticking up through the backing.

Fiber is a critical area when it comes to carpet. There are three basic fibers used today in the carpet industry:

1) Polypropylene, such as the loop-style pile.
2) Polyester,
3) Nylon, the most popular and durable fiber by far.
4) Wool, it is a traditional carpet fiber, but its high price makes it less common.

With square carpet, you can rotate tiles to mix-up the look or offset tiles and install them in a 'brick' pattern.
With planks you have more options: in addition to the 'brick' layout, herringbone patterns are a popular choice, as are basket weave.

Installation patterns add design flair to flooring, especially if you're using a solid color carpet tiles.

One of the great advantages of carpet tiles is the design flexibility they provide. Tiles can be laid in different arrangements to create layout patterns or you can introduce accent tiles to create layouts that can't be replicated with other flooring types.

Most of the time, carpet tiles are glued-down. Some flooring adhesives release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which pose health risks and are detrimental to indoor air quality, so you should try to use certified VOC-free products wherever possible.

About carpet tiles backing:
Hardback type - carpet fibers are tufted into a thin layer of PVC. This provides good dimensional stability (meaning your carpet tiles remain flat and square), but offers poor moisture management. Additionally, as the backing is thin, it offers no protection to the carpet fibers, which bear all the weight of foot traffic and associated wear and tear.
Closed cell cushion backing type - carpet fibers are tufted into a layer of padding that sits on top of a plastic backing. Closed cell cushioning helps to extend the life of carpet tiles, as the cushion absorbs some of the impact of foot traffic, instead of the carpet fibers. However, over time the efficacy of the closed cell cushioning deteriorates, as it compresses under foot.
Open cell cushion backing type - unlike closed cell cushioning, this type of carpet tile backing 'reinflates' after compression, meaning it offers unparalleled protection against wear and tear. Open cell cushion backing can prolong the life expectancy of carpet tiles by 40-50% compared with hardback products. It also offers improved acoustics and moisture management.

Branding Through Interior Design

Most people define branding as the totality of the perceptions and experiences people have of your company. We at Singapore Interior always want to define and strengthen our clients’ brands.
Our design consultants at Singapore Interior expanded our design offerings and mindfully developed and incorporate branding into our proposals. A critical key to building a strong brand is to bring all perceptions of your company into alignment. What could be a more powerful experience of your brand than when someone walks through your door? At this point, they are literally immersed in your brand
Why not use your physical space as a palette, a message board, to tell the world what your organization is all about? The opportunities to maximize your space through these factors:
Color: Does it feature and/or coordinate with your corporate identity colors? Or could your space be anyone’s office? Does it say something unique about your company? Does it exude a unique, welcoming vibe? Is it a place you feel good about coming in to?
Signage & Mural Walls: This is an obvious opportunity to reinforce your brand. Showcase your logo as a gorgeous, 3D lobby sign in a prominent location. Mural walls with vision, mission or history of the company is a great way to portray your identity.
Overall design quality and ambiance: Is your space purposeful planned and well thought-out? Or did it fall together over time with no real plan? Again, you can show visitors that you care about the details and you value quality.

Structured Network Cabling for Office / Commercial

Are you sourcing for experienced ID firm such as Singapore Interior Pte Ltd that can handles the renovation of your offices, factories including your data centre?

At Singapore Interior, we have more than 23 years of experience in full turnkey on the design and build of offices, factories, retail premises. Cabling is an important part of the fitting out, as network / communication forms an important part of our client's business activities.

Our teams of technicians are experienced and skilled in the installation of structured cabling for our commercial clients (offices, factories, server rooms). We handle our cabling work from user desks right through to client's data centre / server room and patch into client's patch panels in the server racks. We will test each cable to ensure it's quality and connectivity of the structured cabling.
We complete our work with the provision of patch panels, patch cords, server racks with proper labeling on each cable and documentation.
After which client will have their IT team to take over to install their network data switches, server equipment, network drive and UPS systems.

There are several types of cable which are commonly used with LANs. The type of cable chosen for a network is related to the network's topology, protocol, and size. Understanding the characteristics of different types of cable and how they relate to other aspects of a network is necessary for the development of a successful network.
The following types of cables are used in networks:
A) Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cable
B) Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) Cable
C) Fiber Optic Cable

Twisted pair cabling comes in two varieties: shielded and unshielded. Unshielded twisted pair (such as UTP Cat 5E, UTP Cat 6) is the most popular in Singapore.

Ergonomic Office Chairs | Mesh Chairs | Leather Chairs (Tel: 63239213)

No office can be without chairs, and of course when talking about a quality office chair, the best one is always one that is ergonomic. Remember that people in the office will probably sit in their chairs for at least 8 hours in one day. This is why it is so important that purchasers / managers invest in ergonomic office chairs for their employees.

Sitting incorrectly for long periods can have serious health consequences. To maintain a healthy posture and work more comfortably, here are tips on how to set up your workplace.

Understand the importance of having chairs that are ergonomic. Ergonomic chairs help to reduce back problems, pain in the shoulders and neck; providing better comfort to someone who uses it throughout their work.

Check for these features when selecting an ergonomic chair:

A SEAT THAT IS PROPERLY ADJUSTABLE

LUMBAR SUPPORT FOR CHAIRS
A good backrest that is high enough to support the back and the neck Adequate seat width and also an adequate depth Arm rests that are appropriate and long enough to support the average arm of an office worker Swivel feature that will allow one to turn around in one spot

CHECK THE HEIGHT -
Ergonomic office chairs should have a height adjustable seat. Not everybody is one size so look for the chairs that have those levers under them that allow for the proper adjustments. Usually means having your workers’ feet flat on the floor at all times while they are seated. Of course, their thighs have to be parallel to the floor and their arms up to the correct height when compared with their desks.

CHECK WIDTH AND DEPTH -
When you are looking for an ergonomic chair, you need to look for one that is about 17 to 20 inches in width. Depth usually refers to the space from the front of the seat to the back, and not how deep a cushion goes when it is sat upon. Basically, when you sit down, you should have about 2 to 4 inches between the back of your knees and the front edge of the seat. This makes for very good ergonomic chairs.

CHECK THE INTERIOR SUPPORT-
This refers to the support given to your lower back and this is very important. The lower back is where most back trouble starts and you need to have seats that will address this issue and prevent any further damage. Make sure that your chairs do not force one to slouch while seated. This will strain the lower spine. This means you need to find a chair that has adjustable lumbar support for both height and depth.

CHECK THE BACK -
Of course, a good chair should have good overall back support and 12 to 19 inches in width of the back rest should do the trick. If the back rest is not part of the chair completely, this means you should find one that is adjustable. Again, it is attention to the spine that is important here and the best ergonomic chair makes sure that this is well attended to.

Of course, it is difficult to have to look for different types of chairs of different sizes just to suit the many people in your office. Also, there is no such thing as the best fit for everyone. After all, people each have their own preferences for comfort. This is the reason why you should try your chairs first before actually purchasing them. If you can have some of your employees shop with you, all the better because this is one way that you can make the right purchase on executive office chairs; and your own executive office chair is important to consider in the batch as well.

Keep in mind that as long as the chair has good back and neck support for the average height of a person and as long as it is sturdy but can be swivelled around while allowing for a good length from a person’s knees to the ground, it could be a good ergonomic chair. And it could be the best chair for you to invest in for you and your workers.

RESEARCH THE FEATURES OF AN ERGONOMIC CHAIR:

Height – An ergonomic chair should allow for adjustment in height to allow you to sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor, with your knees at a 90 degree angle and parallel to your hips.

Armrest - Armrests can support your arms so that your shoulders rest at a comfortable position when you are working. This is an important feature if you are typing at the computer for a large portion of your day. Armrests should be adjustable in height and position to accommodate different users and activities.

Back – The backrest on an ergonomic chair should support the natural curve of your spine, providing support in the lower back. It should be high enough to support your shoulder and neck region, while allowing for flex and movement for reaching activities when you are sitting. Some ergonomic chairs have a recline function in their back rest to allow for reclined sitting, which is when the hip to back angle is greater than 90 degrees.

Seat – An ergonomic chair should provide comfortable support to your hips and buttocks and the seat depth should measure from your back to 2 to 4 inches from the back of your knees.

Headrest – A headrest allows your head to be supported when you are sitting in a reclined position in your chair. This is a useful feature if you spend more time sitting in a reclined position for talking on the phone than typing at your desk.

Consider what you will do most in your ergonomic chair. Will you be talking on the phone most of the day? Will you need access to many different things on your desk? Will you be on the computer, sitting still in the same position? Make a list and compare them to the characteristics of ergonomic chairs to help you choose an ergonomic office chair.

Visit our showroom that has wide range of ergonomic chairs (leather chairs, mesh chairs, fabric chairs) to try out. Once you have narrowed down the functions and features of the ergonomic chair you want, sit in, to assess comfort, support and positioning. Speak to our experienced sales executive to understand the ergonomic features each chairs can provide.

Choose the style, color and materials of your ergonomic chair. Finally, if applicable, many ergonomic chairs come in different styles and materials, such as leather, fabric or mesh back chairs. In some models, you may also be able to choose colors to customize the chair to your specifications.

Why Choose Drywall Gypsum Board Partition For Rooms Construction?

Advanced dry partition wall has emerged as the new focus to modern technology in homes & offices. In many commercial projects under taken by Singapore Interior Pte Ltd and Singapore Interior Group, we recommend customers using dry partition walls between rooms in their office / commercial partition rooms. The constant improvement in performance for plasterboard to suit the use in commercial projects has ensured that such wall system now meets high level specifications in the areas of acoustic insulation, thermal insulation and resistance to fire and damp conditions. Besides meeting statutory functional requirements such as fire ratings, the heavy duty drywalls are able to resist high impact and support loads such as televisions and cabinets. Performance-wise, the system is suitable for severe duty usage, having passed the strength and robustness tests such as: Stiffness, Door Slam, Impact, Heavyweight Anchorages tests, in accordance to Singapore Standard SS492:2001. High performance drywalls are tested to severe duty standards in strength and able to withhold minimum loading of 25 kg at each point. The fire rating for the board is about 1 hour which satisfies the fire safety requirement for residential buildings. Despite the “heavy duty” label, the drywalls are lightweight (about 10-15% the weight of conventional brickwalls); allowing us to adopt lighter structures, which results in savings in foundations cost. The drywall system is slimmer than conventional brickwalls, thus creating more usable space for the offices / cabins.

The ease of installation of mechanical and electrical (M&E) services within the boards will reduce the noise pollution that may be created with the hacking of brick walls to embed the services, providing a cleaner and environmentally friendly site. The drywall system can be easily installed and quickly relocated according to one’s needs. Tenants / owners can renovate and redesign the interior layouts within a short time, There is no messy hacking of concrete or bricks and no debris to the environment. The use of this system also facilitates dry construction that does not require for messy plastering as its smooth and even surfaces are ready to receive paint finishes directly. Without the use of plastering, it would eliminate the possible defects arising from low standard of workmanship. Such advantages have led Developers to use drywalls for various developments, including residential projects.

How is the Acoustic Performance?
There are different types of drywall systems available that offer a wide range of fire resistance and acoustic ratings to meet design requirements. The acoustic performance of the drywalls can be enhanced with the installation of rockwool between the boards. Sound Transmission Class (or STC) is used to rate interior partitions, ceiling/floors, doors, window and exterior wall configurations. STC is the decibel reduction in noise a partition can provide.

The higher the STC value, the better is the acoustic performance.
STC 25 Normal speech can be heard easily
STC 30 Loud speech can be heard
STC 35 Loud speech can be heard, but not understood
STC 42 Loud speech can be heard only as a murmur
STC 45 Must strain to hear loud speech
STC 48 Only some loud speech can be heard
STC 53 Loud speech cannot be heard

For comparision: Interior walls with bricks or concrete walls have STC of about 40, which is considered as “onset of privacy”, suitable within the residential units.
The lightweight and dry partition walls have an STC of about 33 without any insulation. Adding insulation like rockwool in the wall cavity would increase the STC to between 45 - 50. Hence, unlike brick or concrete walls where the STC is limited to the choice of material, the dry partition walls have the ability to improve on the sound transmission loss by increasing the space and insulation between the boards to yield an STC of as high as 63.
We supply rockwool insulation of different density to suit different usage / needs.Speak to our consultants / designers in Singapore Interior Pte Ltd for more information.

Can Drywall support fixtures such as cabinets and TV?
For light and medium duty anchor for fixtures such as mirrors, light fitting or picture frames on drywalls, simply use screwdriver to insert and tighten the screw until secure. There is no need for hammer drills to make holes in concrete or brick and no unsightly chunks of concrete or brick breaking out through imprecise workmanship. The drywall system is also able to support heavy fixture such as large wall cupboards and heavy wall cabinets, but homeowners are advised to get contractors to carry out the installation work with proper heavy duty anchors.

Footnotes: Selecting rockwool insulation density:

A guide to acoustic insulation that will help you to decide the right rockwool insulation to meet your requirements. If you haven’t had to use insulation material before, knowing which acoustic insulation slabs you should be using can be tricky. In this guide, we will show you how to choose the correct thickness and density of acoustic insulation slab.

Thermal insulation versus acoustic insulation

Acoustic slabs are manufactured to a higher density than other forms of insulation, unlike thermal insulation which is lower in density and supplied in rolls. sound insulation slabs start at a minimum density of 45kg/m³. Acoustic slabs are supplied at a standard size of 1200mm x 600mm. These slabs have a U-value which means that they have the additional benefit of thermal insulation as well as sound insulation.

Is your insulation fire rated?

The sound insulation slabs are non combustible and they will offer no contribution to fire.

What thickness of acoustic insulation should I use?

Using acoustic insulation to soundproof walls is a great way of blocking airborne sound transfer through a wall. If you are sound insulating a stud wall, the depth of insulation you choose will be determined by the depth of the stud frame. Always use a thickness that is no deeper than the depth of the frame. Acoustic slabs have very little compression and will not squeeze between sheets of plasterboard. Acoustic insulation slabs are available in a variety of thicknesses ranging from 50mm, 75mm and 100mm.

You do not have to completely fill the stud frame, leaving a gap between the insulation and the boarding is better than compressing the insulation.

If you are building an acoustic wall and want to use acoustic insulation inside the frame, choose the slabs according to the depth of stud work and how much room you can afford to lose. We would recommend a minimum thickness of 50mm for stud wall applications. If you can go thicker, the additional thickness of the insulation will offer better levels of sound insulation. It is important to remember that doubling up on thicknesses will not offer double the level of soundproofing, but increasing the density does.

Choosing the correct density kg/m³ of acoustic insulation

Knowing which density to choose is probably the most challenging part of selecting acoustic insulation. Acoustic insulation is available in a variety of densities which range from 45kg up to 140kg per slab. It’s the density that marks out this type of soundproof insulation from other slabs of insulation.

kg/m³ explained

kg/m³ is the weight of the slabs if they were manufactured in a block of one metre cube (1m x 1m x 1m). In order for them to be identified, they are given a density rating which refers to the weight of a metre cube, displayed as kg/m³.

Sound insulation slabs are available in the following densities:

  • 45 kg/m³
  • 60 kg/m³
  • 80 kg/m³
  • 100 kg/m³
